12-year-old arrested for posting picture of BB guns on Snapchat. Here’s what we know.

FREMONT, Ohio — An Ohio 12-year-old was arrested after allegedly posting a picture of BB guns on Snapchat along with a message that school officials and law enforcement perceived as a threat.

According to the Fremont Police Department, the child, on Sunday, Aug. 21, posted a message on the popular texting app that said, “all the school supplies I need” along with pictures of three guns.

Two Snapchat users reported the message.

Officers determined the firearms were BB guns and took the child into custody. The child has been released to his parents, who are cooperating with the investigation, according to a press release.

It is not clear whether the 12-year-old will be charged. The guns were confiscated, police said.

Fremont City Schools said in a release that the child will “face consequences” in accordance with the district’s policies.

“Content like this will be taken seriously by the Fremont Police Department and we will commit all of the resources we have to ensure these incidents are investigated completely,” the school district’s press release said.

Students return to Fremont City Schools classrooms beginning Monday, Aug. 29.
