DAKOTA, Ill. — A high school teacher and coach in northern Illinois faces multiple charges of child pornography.
According to court documents, 37-year-old Daniel Sheets was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 16, on five counts of child pornography and unauthorized videotaping, offenses that allegedly occurred in July 2019.
Sheets was taken to the Stephenson County Jail in Freeport, Illinois. Bond was set at $500,000.
Wednesday marks the third time this month the football and track coach was charged with similar offenses. Sheets was arrested on Aug. 2 on three counts of child pornography and one count of unauthorized videotaping. A day later, prosecutors added nine additional counts of child pornography. Authorities allege those offenses occurred in October 2021 and December 2021, respectively.
Court filings allege that on at least one occasion, Sheets placed a hidden camera in a bathroom with the sole purpose of capturing nude footage of an underage victim.
A special education teacher in the Dakota Community School District in Dakota, Illinois, Sheets is currently on administrative leave.
The investigation is ongoing, police said. More charges are possible.
