Illinois man falls asleep in woman’s car, gets arrested for burglary

ROCKFORD — A Rockford, Illinois man was arrested Monday morning after a woman found him sleeping in her car.

Police say the man was discovered at around 8 a.m., in the car parked in front of the woman’s house in the 300 block of Glendale Avenue. He is not known to the woman.

Police identified the man as 23-year-old Fred Cantu, of Rockford, and say he is linked to two other vehicle burglaries that occurred in the 500 block of Glendale Avenue and the 3500 block of Windpoint Drive.

Cantu is charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle and two counts of burglary to a vehicle. He’s being held without bond and is due in court Tuesday.

The Rockford Police Department reminds residents not leave valuables in their vehicles and always lock the doors.
