Florida residents evacuate, embrace for Hurricane Idalia

(City Tribune) —Some Florida residents are preparing for the worst as Hurricane Idalia moved through the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday.

Other residents were ordered to leave their homes.

Idalia was strengthened to a Category 2 storm Tuesday afternoon. It is expected to be a Category 3 system by Wednesday when it reaches Florida with winds of 12o mph or more.

Residents who were not forced to evacuate say they are doing what they can to say safe.

“We have food and plenty of water to last us the next few days,” said one Port St. Lucie resident.

In other areas of the state, some residents who were affected by Hurricane Ian are still not back are still living in mobile homes while they wait for repairs from the Category 5 storm.

“We won’t be staying in the trailer here,” said Manatee County resident Rick Drever. “We’re going to pull it up north and hope for he best.”
